Coaching Supervision

What is Coaching Supervision?

Coaching supervision is a dedicated thinking space, a protected and confidential time where a coach can slow down and really examine their practice alongside a trained supervisor. Think of it as ongoing professional development, but with a lot more humanity and a lot less slideware. Together, coach and supervisor dig into the real stuff: the work, the patterns, and the places where growth is unfolding.

The goal is to make coaches better by being more aware, grounded, and attuned to the practice, all so that the people we serve (clients, sponsors, organizations) receive the very best of what coaching has to offer. At its core, supervision is about building reflective practice. Not just doing the work, but truly understanding it.

What is changing?

There are some big changes coming in April 2027 related to mentor coaching and supervision:

  1. New mentor coaching certification (MCQ) is replacing the performance evaluations for ACC/PCC. Any mentor coaching hours for credentialing will only be accepted by coaches who have an MCQ. See the ICF site.

  2. New supervision certification (CSQ) and other accreditations will be taken into account when applying for the MCQ credential.  See the ICF site.

  3. Interested in either the MCS or CSC credentials? Sign up here to get notified when the applications open up.

  4. Get ready for Group Coaching Supervision with our Preparation Suggestions.

We are continuing to offer Group Coaching Supervision ahead of the April 2027 changes. Below are opportunities to register, along with a downloadable prep/tip sheet to reference prior to each session.

What is the difference between Mentoring Coaching & Coaching Supervision?

Coaching supervision primarily focuses on the “self” of the coach, the quality and impact of their work, and how they relate to broader context and systems.  Mentor coaching focuses more on the skill development of the coach. Learn more.
