President’s Message

I’m sitting here, at the brink of a week off, warm, and superbly refreshed from the rain we were blessed with overnight. I’m truly sitting in gratitude for the abundance today while embracing the opportunities to come.

I attended the “Global Oneness Summit” the other day and was inspired by so many people working towards global peace, awareness and unity. It reminded me how we coaches are in a prime position to be a part of that, no matter how large or small.

In this same vein, we at SFBAC are looking forward to next year and have designated the theme of 2015 to be “The Power of We.” We invite you to be a part of that as a participating member.

Our speakership next year will also participate in this theme. James Baraz (of Spirit Rock fame) will kick off the year on January 21st with a presentation about “resistance!” But first we have Halloween, then Angella Okawa in November, followed by Thanksgiving, and our annual Holiday party in December, so please join us to celebrate every step of the way as we meet, greet, and work together to make a global impact through coaching!!

Blind to What Binds: How challenging childhood experiences block a client from moving forward… with Angella Okawa

Many people don’t think to include childhood events like bullying, growing up with an alcoholic, or having narcissistic parents in the definition of trauma. Yet The brain stores those challenging life experiences and they can have dramatic, but under-detected, impact on an adult’s relationships.

Through interactive training, Angella Okawa will show us how you can recognize those patterns in coaching.

Angella Okawa, MFT is a certified Integral Coach, Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, and graduate of the Hakomi Method, a mindfulness-based somatic psychotherapy. Angella spent 6 years at IDEO, an award-winning global design firm, and currently works with tech professionals to help them get out of their own way. With a passion for bridging disciplines and simplifying complexity, Angella offers a unique perspective on how individuals can realize their full potential.

The event will take place at the Stanford Graduate School of Business Knight Management Center.

There will be filming that night as part of a brand new program being developed: They need coaches in the audience to really give a coaching focus to the event. Shirzad will be speaking about how to identify and conquer the mental Saboteurs that get in the way of peak performance.
