February 2014

President's Message

The year has gotten off to a strong start for SFBAC.  We completed our Board with the addition of some dynamic members to our team, and welcomed volunteer Regional Liaisons and Coaching School Liaisons.  We held a day-long Board retreat and created an exciting and ambitious strategy for our organization in 2014, including participation in International Coaching Week in May and ongoing outreach to our local coaching schools.  We revised our mission to reflect our global reach through live streaming, and we set an agenda predicated on fun and building community among our members.

I invite you to join us as a volunteer with our chapter Volunteering is a great way to build relationships among fellow coaches and get to know our organization and our Board.  We are actively seeking a Social Media Administrator to help us with our Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages, as well as additional Coaching School Liaisons, particularly a New Ventures West Liaison.  Please email me at kk@evainternational.co if you are interested in a volunteer position.

I look forward to seeing everybody at the monthly gathering on February 12!

Cheers,
Krisztina Kohlhaas, MBA, MA
President, ICF San Francisco Bay Area Coaches

February Monthly Gathering

Coaching With The Emotional Brain - Sylvia Kurpanek
Wednesday February 12, 2014 - 6:30 PM until 9:00 PM

Have you ever thought about the particular neurological processes that inhibit people from changing? In our coaching work with clients, many of us have experienced the following frustrating scenario: As a result of the coaching, our client has developed a clear strategy and defined the next steps to take to achieve their goal. But something blocks him/her from putting that hard-won new strategy into actual practice. Very often these blocks are non-conscious. Learn exactly what’s behind those blocks and other unpleasant and dysfunctional emotional responses. In this presentation and live demonstration you will hear about the specific part of the brain that creates these blocks and how we can speak its language to achieve lasting results in coaching. Come and learn what is possible!

Sylvia Kurpanek is the creator of the Limbic Coaching ® method. She is a professional personal and executive coach and founder of the Palo Alto Institute for Systemic Coaching. Originally from Germany, Sylvia was educated in Europe, has a Master’s Degree in Organizational Psychology, a law degree, and degrees in Mediation and Intercultural Training and Coaching. An NLP Master Practitioner and certified Systemic Coach, Sylvia also coaches in a variety of other proven methods.

RSVP Program Expands Our Reach

Introducing Four New Regional Volunteers
We're growing and we're excited about it! Our Regional Streaming Video Parties (RSVP) now have Regional Liaisons organizing live-streaming of our monthly chapter gatherings in four different corners of the greater SF Bay Area:

North Bay, Elisabeth von Halem: elisabeth@happierhealthiersmarter.me
East Bay, Kym Cadle: kcadle@pureambitionconsulting.com
South Bay, Fabienne Slama: fabienneslama@icloud.com
And our new reach into Santa Cruz, Janette Valentino: janette@valentinocoaching.com

The ABC’s on RSVP
RSVP is for all of us who live far away from San Francisco but still want to engage directly with the coaching community and deepen our learning. These meetings happen concurrently with the San Francisco gathering, and allow for intimate connection & networking with your geographical neighbors. We welcome non-members, so please bring a friend. Pre-registration is required for all meetings. If you'd like to start an RSVP gathering in your area, please contact a Regional Liaison close to you. All that is required is that you be a member of SFBAC and that you have a newer computer.

The Big Shift Has A Big Offer For SFBAC Members

Calling Volunteers: A Few Good Jobs Left

Members have really stepped up to our call and our governing board and committees are almost completely filled. But there’s still a call for:

Marketing/PR Director
  • Responsible for external communications and attracting new members to grow our chapter
  • Communicates and promotes our programs and benefits via our website and external channels to attract new participants and potential new members
  • Secures and maintains relationships with existing and potential sponsors and advertisers
  • Leads the Growth Committee, which sets the strategic direction based on clearly understanding the needs of our target market, and provides specific guidance and recommendations to the Board and other committees
  • Responds to requests from the media and research organizations
  • Works with local media to raise public awareness of the benefits of coaching
Social Media Administrator
Helps manage SFBAC's social media presence and updates, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others as necessary.

Coaching School Liaisons - New Ventures West
School liaisons primarily ensure that SFBAC collateral is distributed to students and that schools are announcing SFBAC meetings and events and inviting students to attend. We still need a New Ventures West Liaison and although we already have volunteers for the following schools, we can always use more:
  • Academy of Coaching & NLP
  • Academy for Coaching Excellence
  • California Institute of Integral Studies
  • The Coaches Training Institute (CTI)
  • CRR Global
  • Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC)
  • Sofia University
  • Strozzi Institute
  • Other local ICF-affiliated coaching schools you know of
To volunteer please email Krisztina Kohlhaas at kk@evainternational.co by February 5th with the following:
  1. Your name
  2. What city do you live in?
  3. Why would you like to be an SFBAC volunteer?
  4. Preference will be given to volunteers able to commit for the entire year.  Please address your ability to do so

Announcing:
Foundations for Generative Leadership Workshop
Thursday-Saturday, March 13-15
8:30 AM to 5:30 PM on Thursday and Friday, and to 4 PM on Saturday

This workshop promises to empower you to produce better results as a leader or coach by developing new practices and ways of approaching the challenges of leadership. These are hands-on practices that let you take new and more powerful actions in response to the challenges you face today. These are new actions that open up new possibilities for the results you will become capable of producing.

This rigorous, three-day learning experience is led by Bob Dunham and the Institute for Generative Leadership, in partnership with Newfield Network.

Benefits of participation include:
  • Make bigger and more valuable promises and fulfill them with your team
  • Reduce the number and severity of breakdowns you experience by learning to identify common blind spots for teams and powerful ways to remedy them for good.
  • Increase commitment and follow-through of teams by learning and practicing the essential skills for coordinating action, and by identifying and resolving the most common pitfalls of communication in teams.
  • Greater skill tackling challenges of trust and mood that impact many organizations, but are difficult to pin down or talk about by learning how to produce the positive outcomes you care about.
  • Close the gap between learning and doing by identifying concrete next steps to immediately apply what you learn, and to produce more satisfying results in your coaching and leadership roles.  The workshop is about learning to practice, not just learning about leadership.
