President's Message:

Hello Colleagues and Friends!

was in a bubble recently.

Technically I was in a 2008 Jeep Liberty, but the bubble encompassed 400 cyclists, scores of volunteers and a large part of Marin County. This ‘day on the ride’ approximates a week-long cause-related event in June with over 3000 cyclists and volunteers. The magnificent bubble of this event is filled with compassion, support, love and random acts of kindness.  It represents the kind of world we want to live in.

As I indulged my inner NASCAR driver on the outskirts of Novato, I noticed that coaches can live in bubbles too. Bubbles that represent the world we want, and what our clients are creating for themselves. A bubble created by the worldwide community of coaches and those impacted by our work, but also bubbles that may be no bigger than your office or client roster.

As the June cycling event nears its end, every participant will vow to carry the world of our bubble into the world we return to.  Quickly the bubble bursts.  The world pushes back.  A level of connection is lost.

What abou
t the coaches’ bubble?  Our worldwide professional bubble grows, but our local, personal bubbles thrive on greater connection.  I will nurture and grow connections with coaches not just because I like the bubble we’re in, but because one day the bubble will burst and we won’t notice the difference.

Best Always,

Greg Peters CPCC, ACC
President

Representing YOU at HR West

One of the Strategic Priorities of our Board is to “Enable Business Development of our Members’ Businesses”.   So with the objective of promoting business development as well as increasing public visibility of ICF SFBAC, our chapter recently participated in the 2013 HR West Conference at the Oakland Convention Center.

Hosted by NCHRA (Northern California Human Resources Association, the regional chapter of SHRM), HR West is one of the largest annual conferences for HR professionals in California.  The 2013 event featured 4 national keynote speakers and more than 90 concurrent seminars, and attracted about 700 attendees from California and beyond.  We were one of 48 organizations that sponsored a booth at this show.

As an innovative way to participate in a trade show, SFBAC President Greg Peters devised a way to split the booth fee among 7 SFBAC members.  These 7 members worked at the booth in shifts and were able to use this opportunity to promote their respective coaching businesses as well as to promote ICF SFBAC and coaching in general.  Keiko Hsu, SFBAC Past President and one of the 7 booth participants, said, “What a great opportunity to network with HR managers!  We got some good leads there.  I’ll definitely participate again in the future.”
Here are comments from some of the other coach-sponsors:

“What a pleasure it was to have had the opportunity to work with other ICF SFBAC coaches to represent the coaching profession with such accessibility to the public and diversity of industries.  It was inspiring to have the conference participants be so engaged in learning what ICF provides whether they were experienced coaches themselves or whether they had not yet been exposed coaching.”

“The event was well attended and ICF’s information timely as companies expand their focus on exec and leadership development.  I have several seriously hot leads and also enjoyed expanding my network with key industry contacts.  Can’t wait for next year!”

“Being a sponsor of at HRWest was not only great fun, but it provided us the opportunity to shine a light on our profession, organization and our individual businesses. Many HR professionals are looking to coaching as an added skill set or as a new profession for themselves. It was a great way to make new connections and a few leads.”

Stay tuned as we look for more ways to assist you in developing your business, and please contact Greg Peters with your ideas!

ICF Update: May 2013

President's Message
Being connected, an ICF benefit

Watch Damian's message Click here

Most of my first quarter as ICF President was spent traveling—these travels allowed me the irreplaceable opportunity of representing ICF Global and visiting with various Chapters and members. Through this time, I visited the ICF Chapters in Frankfurt, Budapest and Los Angeles and participated in ICF Conferences in Dublin, Milan, and Sydney.

Everywhere I went, I experienced the global community of ICF. It's amazing to me that though we are separated by many oceans and mountains and represent numerous cultures and walks of life, we are all members of the same ICF Global family. And despite our individual coaching styles, we all share the same commitment of making a difference in the world and building successful coaching practices. I found this so refreshing with every place I visited.

At the conferences I attended, I couldn't help but notice the similarities of theme. In Sydney, the theme was Connect, Expand and Reflect. In Milan, it was Inspire, Choose, Build. And in Dublin, it was: Coaching Experience, Science and Impact. Each conference provided its delegates world-class education and opportunities for connection. This tells me that no matter where coaches live and work, we all want to learn, be more effective, and stay connected.

This is the magic of belonging to ICF... of being one of the 22,000 people in 116 countries working toward the professionalization of coaching.

No matter where you live; I want to invite you to connect with your colleagues. If you live close enough to one of the 120 ICF Chapters, participate in local Chapter meetings and events as your schedule allows. Plan to attend regional and ICF Global Conferences as you are able. Get involved as a volunteer locally or globally. Connect with ICF Global and colleagues through social media: start or join a conversation on the ICF LinkedIn group, look for one another on Twitter and Facebook, watch ICF videos on YouTube, and read your colleagues' work on the ICF Blog. And join one of ICF's Communities of Practice to have ongoing conversations with fellow members. There are so many ways to connect. I encourage you to find a new means of engagement this month. Put yourself out there—I know you'll be happy you did.

And thank you to ICF Germany, ICF Hungary, ICF Italy, ICF Australasia and ICF Los Angeles for your hospitality, your camaraderie, and for reminding me that no matter the distance, we are one through the ICF.

Have a great month!
Warm regards,?

Dr. Damian Goldvarg, MCC
2013 ICF President

Emotional Management Workshop

The Emotional Management Method for Individuals (EMMI) Course is coming this month to the San Francisco Bay area!  Learn a powerful new way to manage and balance deep emotions and overcome any obstacles stopping you from moving forward.  As a result you will achieve more by
taking measured risks,
preventing burnout,
improving performance,
strengthening intuition and creativity,
and handling difficulty, change, and transition with more ease and positivity.

EMMI is safe, effective, and measurable. This workshop is geared toward people who are interested in emotional management themselves and for coaches and wellness practitioners who work with people.

Our May 31 - June 1 training includes: 1.5 day course, course materials, and your personal profile assessment.

Register at http://growintomore.com/upcoming/ or call 763.458.1672. Full money-back guarantee and CCEUs are available.  Special ICF SFBAC discount when you register before May 24th!

Health practitioners, life/relationship/corporate coaches, psychotherapists, counselors, HR managers, and healers can register to begin training as a certified EMMI Practitioner.  Attract more clients and move them forward more effectively in less time by learning to recognize, integrate and balance their “polarities” while bringing more of their subconscious feelings to the surface.

“It’s very difficult to find a new exciting method of working with people that really is transformative for both my corporate and personal clients.  The quality of the instruction was excellent. There is something really special here; being able to move through emotions and blocks in a very succinct and powerful way.  I highly recommend this workshop.” – Suzanne Blake (Boston), PCC
