In This Month's Issue of Checking In:
Dear Members and Friends,
April is ICF Membership renewal month and I hope existing ICF Members have had a chance to renew their membership. (If you are new to our organization this is membership in our global governing body: International Coach Federation
, which is separate from membership in San Francisco Bay Area Coaches.) It’s a great feeling to be part of the leading global organization dedicated to advancing the coaching profession, which sets high standards, provides independent certification, and is building a worldwide network of credentialed coaches. If you have completed coach training, or are in the process of completing coach training, you may now be eligible for ICF membership. I encourage you to visit http://www.coachfederation.org/join-icf/
where you can learn about eligibility requirements and member benefits. Membership in both ICF and San Francisco Bay Area Coaches is an affirming action that creates opportunity for you and strengthens our growing community.
We’re thrilled to welcome Gregg Levoy as our presenter at this month’s Gathering. Gregg is the author of Callings: Finding and Following An Authentic Life
, and the soon to be published Vital Signs: The Nature and Nurture of Passion
. Gregg is also offering a one-day workshop on the Saturday following the Gathering. See the announcement in this newsletter for more details.
I look forward to connecting with you at our Gathering on April 10th!

Monthly Gathering and Special Event
Callings: The Power of Passionate Work
with Gregg Levoy
How do we know if we’re following our true callings?
How do we sharpen our senses to cut through the distractions of everyday reality and hear the calls that are beckoning us?
We receive many kinds of calls throughout our lives. A calling may be to do something (change careers, go back to school, have a child) or to be something (more creative, less judgmental, more loving). A calling may arrive through various ways and in a variety of forms but often we don’t hear it.
We may wonder why we are not fulfilled or why life seems so hard. We sometimes feel we are on a sort of autopilot, cruising along but not really engaged. We might feel stuck or lost. What we don’t know is that we might be ignoring that which calls us into our personal power and authenticity.
Gregg Levoy, the acclaimed author of Callings: Finding and Following an Authentic Life, is a teacher in various graduate programs and is a lecturer and seminar-leader in the business, educational, governmental and human-potential arenas. Gregg returns to ICF San Francisco Bay Area Coaches with his powerful and poetic process for going deeper into how and why we choose to do what we do in the world.
Gregg will speak at the Monthly Gathering as well as present a full-day workshop:
To attend this event via a Regional Streaming Video Party, click here.
Wednesday April 10, 2013 6:30-9pm
Handlery Hotel, San Francisco
FREE for members. Cost for guests is $20.
FULL DAY WORKSHOP
Saturday April 13, 2013 9-5 pm $110
Calvin Hall, Calvary Presbyterian Church
2515 Fillmore St. San Francisco CA 94115
Drawing on the hard-won wisdom and powerful stories of people who have followed their own calls, Gregg Levoy will show how to translate a calling into action, and speak to our most pressing questions, including:
What is a calling?
• How do we recognize it?
• How do we distinguish the true call from the siren song?
• How do we handle our resistance to a call?
• What happens when we say yes?
• What happens when we say no?
Find the fit between who you are and what you do. Clarify your callings! Both the free event and the intensive one-day workshop will fill quickly so register early.
ICF SFBAC Will Be Representing You at the HR West Conference!
ICF San Francisco Bay Area Coaches Charter Chapter is participating in the HR West Conference in Oakland from April 22-24.
We are excited to sponsor the event with an exhibition table where attendees will find information about the chapter, benefits of coaching and of membership, how to join us, and how to find a coach.
HR West is the local Conference of the Northern California Human Resources Association. This annual event is the marquee conference on the West Coast. The event will host more than 600 human resources professionals for two and a half days of learning and networking. The average attendee at HR West Conference is a Manager or Director with more than 10 years of experience at a company of 1,000 or more employees.
With more than 3300 members throughout California, and increasingly in other states, Northern California Human Resources Association is the nation’s largest regional human resources association, with eleven Bay Area counties representing our highest areas of concentration. In addition to our members, NCHRA serves more than 20,000 members of the HR community from Bakersfield to the Oregon border — presenting an excellent opportunity to reach a key target audience, HR decision makers.
Cost of the conference ranges from $850 - $1,025. If you are interested in attending, visit http://www.hrwest.org/
Note: We anticipate a surge of visits to our website as a result of our presence at HR West, so be sure your profile is in place!
SFBayAreaCoaches.org – Highlights for Members
Although there are many benefits to membership in ICF San Francisco Bay Area Coaches, one of the most valuable benefits is the opportunity to create a profile that enables prospective clients (and partners) to find you.
While you might come up in the first few pages of a Google search, your chances of being found by potential clients are much higher if they are searching the member database of the premier coaches’ organization in the Bay Area. But you must create a profile to be found!
SFBayAreaCoaches.org offers members two types of profiles: One for Coaches, and one for Speakers. Both types of profiles allow you to designate searchable interests and specialties that make it easier for visitors to find you.
So if you haven’t yet logged in and created your profile, don’t wait! Do it today!
Monthly Gathering Recordings
Another feature available to members is the ability to watch or listen to recordings of past events. If you were unable to attend, want to refresh your memory, or want to learn more about a speaker or topic, visit the Resources section after logging in. Click the link for the year to see a list of links to available recordings and settle in!
The Value of ICF Membership
President’s Message: Invest in yourself
I think that any professional coach committed to their personal development, as well as the ongoing development of the coaching profession, should be engaged in a professional association. That is the reason why myself, my father, my mother, and my brother (all coaches), are ICF members.
All ICF memberships will expire on March 31. I will renew my membership because I think it is essential to my career and is a necessary investment into myself as a professional coach. I urge you to make an investment in yourself…and your career…and renew your ICF membership online now
