President's Message - January 2013

Welcome!   Greg Peters

As we begin a new year, I wish you and your families all the best.  In reflecting on all that we accomplished last year as an organization, I know that we are well positioned to achieve much in 2013.  We are a strong, thriving community of Coaches; working to create transformation for our clients in a world that continues to shed outdated constructs.

Together we have elevated our visibility as professional coaches and the visibility of our Chapter.  Our membership has grown tremendously, as has attendance at our monthly gatherings where we often now have quite a number of guests who are seeking us out to connect and learn more about our profession.  More businesses and other communities of interest will learn of us through focused promotional efforts and collaboration with professional groups where we have known synergies.

We have listened very intently to what you've told us you want from this community.  There will be exciting new developments as we implement new technologies, including an updated website platform to expand our programs and connect our membership in learning, collaboration, and social opportunities.

I am so fortunate to be working with an amazing Board of Directors in 2013!  This all-volunteer board is an incredibly committed and caring group bringing great diversity of backgrounds and expertise.  Let me introduce you to them:

Returning board members include Alan Roby and Sherry Davis as co-Treasurers; Pat Obuchowski in the newly created role of Business Development Director; Susan Blake - Communications Director; Duncan Anderson and Kellie Barrow as co-Directors of Membership; Eydie Watts - co-Director of Programs; Fabienne Doze - Virtual Programs Director; Janet Valette - North Bay Liaison & Keiko Hsu as Past President.

Our new board members are Krisztina Kohlhaas - Vice President; Pauline Tang - Marketing & PR Director; Alicia Berberich - co-Director of Programs; Becca Pronchik - ICF Liaison; and Veronica Wolfe as East Bay Liaison.

We still have openings for the positions of Secretary and South Bay/Silicon Valley Liaison, as well as many opportunities to help on various committees. Are looking for a way to contribute? If so, I want to talk to you!

At our Holiday Gathering in December we announced the winner of our Excellence in Service Award:  Susan Blake!  Congratulations to Susan on this well deserved recognition.

I hope you'll join me on the many occasions we'll have to connect, learn and grow.  Here's to making 2013 a prosperous and memorable year!

Best regards,

Monthly Gathering

Coaching Excellence in Organizations:

The Anatomy of Conversations

Speaker: Bob Dunham

IMPORTANT: NOTE DATE CHANGE FROM JANUARY 9TH TO JANUARY 23RD

  • What is the existing language of leadership within an organization?
  • As coaches, how do we listen for the "missing elements" and highlight these for our clients?
  • How would communication between leaders and teams be more effective if these distinctions were used daily?
  • How do we evoke more valuable actions in teams and organizations?

Bob Dunham has been working with leaders and organizations for over three decades and was doing executive and leadership coaching before there was a name for it.  At our request, he is bringing his wealth of knowledge and experience to the topic of how coaches can increase their impact in their work with organizations. According to Bob, one of the best ways to generate value for organizational clients is to identify the conversations between leaders and teams that optimize performance.  If you coach on an organizational level, or think you might like to, this is a presentation not to be missed.

Can't Make It to San Francisco for Meetings?

Have you ever said (or thought) this?

"I'd really like to get together with other coaches, but I just can't get into San Francisco for meetings."

If being with a community of coaches is important to you but coming into San Francisco is just too hard, we encourage you to participate in our next campaign of "Listen In!" - a private pilot program of broadcasting our monthly gatherings to the coaching community.

The response to our initial trial in November was very positive and we are ready to expand this virtual program to all corners of the Bay Area for our January 23rd meeting. We have hosts lined up for the North Bay in Petaluma and Napa, and we are still looking for hosts for the East Bay and South Bay. Would you be interested in hosting 4-8 people in your home or local library?

This is a great opportunity to be part of the coaching community and advance your learning without having to travel too far.  This will be our last time to offer this program for free to anyone who wants to participate, so please come try it out to see if it is a good match for you.

If you can host in either the East or South Bay, please contact Virtual Programs Director Fabienne Doze (fabienne.doze@gmail.com)

To attend in Petaluma (easy freeway access!), please RSVP to Elisabeth von Halem atElisabeth@happierhealthiersmarter.me

To attend in Napa (near downtown) contact Becca Pronchick at rebeccapronchick@comcast.net.
