CHECKING IN April 2012 Newsletter
Welcome to Checking In, the monthly newsletter for ICF San Francisco Bay Area Coaches members and friends. In this newsletter you will find details about the next chapter gathering, ways to take advantage of your ICF San Francisco Bay Area Coaches membership and other valuable pieces of information to benefit you as a coach.
Hello Members and Friends of ICF San Francisco Bay Area Coaches (SFBAC),
Your Board and Transition Team have been hard at work developing and implementing new systems, structures, and resources to enable us to transition seamlessly from four separate ICF chapters to become one, unified SF Bay Area mega-chapter.
We've talked with other successful chapters around the world to learn how they engage members across large urban areas, and we've incorporated some of the best practices we've seen. We've learned best practices from other industries too. Our intention is to make ICF San Francisco Bay Area Coaches into a truly world class organization.
You'll soon be hearing about exciting new ways we will conduct face-to-face and virtual meetings to engage our members across the Bay Area. You'll also hear about new interactive web platforms to centralize our resources and enable our members to easily connect with each other online.
Have you joined our new Facebook Group yet? It's a private online forum exclusively created for SFBAC Members: https://www.facebook.com/groups/345102335530986/
You may have already seen the announcement of our new Membership and Dues Structure, which takes effect on May 1st. More details are described below.
This is a very exciting time to be a member of SF Bay Area Coaches. We invite you to JOIN US ... and be an active participant in our lively community of professional coaches, so that you can grow as we grow!

Chapter Consolidation: Notes from the Transition Team
Wow, it's been a busy few months:
- Approved the new chapter name "ICF San Francisco Bay Area Coaches"
- Updated the chapter identity throughout the website , newsletter and Facebook page
- Harvested best practices from other chapters and ideas from local members to feed efforts around Membership/Dues and enhanced connection through Meetings and Events
- Implemented a new Membership/Dues structure effective May 1, making membership more attractive and accessible
- Transferred closed chapter financial resources to the new chapter
- Launched "SF Bay Area Coaches" Facebook group to serve as an online forum and provide additional opportunities for chapter members to connect
There are just a few things left to do, including:
1. Finalize plans for the long-term online home of the chapter
2. Expand ways for Bay Area coaches to connect
- Investigate live streaming of centralized monthly gatherings
- Organize and promote regional activities
- Organize and promote special interest groups to serve the needs of our diverse population
- Expand educational and growth opportunities for members
The process of unifying the four former Bay Area chapters into one has been one full of hard work and pleasant surprises! One of the great benefits has been the opportunity for people to meet and work together who otherwise might never have done so!
To learn more about what that has included - and what you could experience through joining our efforts, please
Meet Julie Daley
Listen to Julie Daley, 2011 President of SF Coaches, share about her experience as leader of the Transition Team, why it's been an incredible journey for her, and what she sees for the coaching community now that we've merged.
The SF Bay Area Coaches Facebook group is a private group for members of SFBAC to post updates, pose questions, announce events, arrange ridesharing to meetings, form Special Interest Groups, and more! Any member of SFBAC can request access by logging in to Facebook and searching for "SF Bay Area Coaches" and clicking "Request to Join." (You do have to have a Facebook account first. If you don't have one yet, they're easy to create, and you are in complete control of whether you "friend" anyone or not.)
If you are not yet a member of SFBAC, Fear Not! Membership reopens with the new membership and fees structure on May 1; you can join the chapter at that time and then request access to the Facebook Group.
(Note: We anticipate there will be a rush of requests for our Group Administrator to handle, so please be patient as he responds to each request individually!)

Most coaches have been told that in order to have a successful practice, they have to choose a specific niche, and follow well-known business models. For those with clear interests, this is welcome news. But for those who like variety and diversity, this advice can feel constraining. Business coach Pamela Slim will introduce and explore different ways to look at your market so that you can have a healthy practice while building a meaningful body of work.
IMPORTANT NOTE: With the finalization of the new membership and dues structure on May 1, 2012, former members of the East Bay, North Bay and Silicon Valley chapters are encouraged to join SFBAC and receive admittance to monthly chapter gatherings at no charge as a benefit of membership. Those who have not joined SFBAC can attend as guests for $20.
SAVE THESE DATES:
Monthly gatherings of SFBAC are held on the second Wednesday of the month, so be sure to save these dates:
Tuesday, August 14 (the exception that proves the rule!)
We are pleased to announce the new Membership and Dues structure for SFBAC:
* All memberships are on a rolling 12-month basis, from the date of joining (i.e. date of receiving first dues payment).
**Definition of "Student": A full-time college or post-graduate student OR someone enrolled in an ICF-ACTP (ICF-Accredited Coach Training Program).
When Does This Go Into Effect? This new Membership and Dues structure will go into effect on May 1, 2012.
This dues structure is lower than the previous SF Coaches rate but is more consistent with the dues of the former local chapters. At the same time, SFBAC will be providing more educational opportunities, more opportunities to connect, and more visibility in the community!
If you are a former member of one of the chapters and have been waiting to join the new chapter, you will be able to do so on May 1. You will receive another email before that time with additional information.
You have an important role in this chapter's being more vibrant than the sum of its parts! Come to the next chapter gathering on Wednesday, May 9th to have your questions answered and to get involved! (Anyone who joins at or before the May 9th meeting can attend meetings at No Charge!) Click Here for meeting information, and stay tuned for additional announcements!
